Thank you very much! Yeah, a lot of people agree with you that my voice is too low at parts....mainly because I turned the music volume up too loud, and I recorded my voice lower than the music.

but hey man, i'm not trying to sound like kurt on purpose.
i have to justify myself somehow, because i LOVE nirvana, but i've tried hard to do my own thing. i have a framed portrait of kurt on the wall, but i've asked it "what wouldn't you do?" just as many, if not more times than i have "what would you do?"
kurt would have done whatever was easier, and then complained about it anyway. that's the truth. i don't have his personality, from what i've read of what he was really like in person, as an artist and performer.
this is how i sing. this is how i play guitar. yeah i learned by playing along to every nirvana record, but then i played along with a lot of other shit too. i love pink floyd. kurt hated pink floyd, and spray-painted "black flag" across a floyd mural in seattle one time just because he hated them so much.
trust me, there are things in this song that kurt wouldn't do, but john mclaughlin or incubus probably would.

for one thing, kurt hate hated hated singing fast. "downer" is the only song that features a syncopatic vocal (and somewhat cogent, politically-conscious lyrics), and it wasn't even included in the first million or so pressings of the album.
i said before he'd never have played a diminished chord on purpose, but that isn't accurate. the final chord of "come as you are" is similar to this song's final chord (mine's an F, his an F#), which isn't actually diminished in the technical sense, but 'lazy,' which is totally grunge's gift to guitar-playing... the notion that those dischordant open strings at the bottoms of power chords are pretty damn cool. instead of running and hiding from expressively sloppy guitar fingering, grunge runs to it and warps it up and makes it rock.
